HaNefesh and Limmud Classes

On behalf of Temple Isaiah’s teen community, we strive to find a way to best support our teens and help them find a balance between the rigors of everyday life and the need to nourish their souls. Additionally, we are constantly evaluating our programs and class offerings to ensure that we are best meeting the needs of our students (and their families). With that in mind, it has become clear to us that while we need to ensure that we are teaching our students about Jewish culture and history, we must also further address the topics of resilience and emotional well-being. Based upon conversations with our teens, their families, and surveys, we have decided to make some changes to some Tichon Isaiah classes to help us achieve this goal.

HaNefesh (The Soul) Classes

Each semester, students will participate in grade-based HaNefesh (The Soul) classes. Our goal in HaNefesh classes will be to create a Jewish learning environment in which our students can build upon their resiliency skills, create a stronger community, and come together to deal with the trials and tribulations of the adolescent years. Please note that HaNefesh is not meant to be a therapeutic initiative, rather we believe that HaNefesh can offer our students a place in which they can address these issues in a safe and caring Jewish environment.

 Limmud (Learning) Classes

Each semester, students will be able to choose their Limmud (Learning) class from a selection of classes. Limmud classes will give students an opportunity to learn about Israel, Holocaust, Prayer, and Jewish Identity through a variety of teaching methods (i.e., art, music, discussion, movement, etc.).
