Grade 5 students extend their sense of Jewish connection to include exploration of Torah and teachings about prophets.  We will us a variety of means to learn in the classroom such as project based learning, stations, text study and hands-on learning experiences. Our students will learn about the role prophets play in religion and the messages that are at the forefront of Reform Judaism.  They will study the differences between historical (those entering Israel) and literary prophets (focus on writings, speeches and poems).  Students will explore their own connection to prophets and be encouraged to understand their responsibility to others.

We take time to review what they learned about Israel.  And have a 5th Grade Kallah that focuses on the Kibbutz Movement. During the kallah, the students work together to create mock-Kibbutz communities in which they learn how Kibbutz societies function, and how the geography in Israel affects everyday life.  Through all of these exciting activities the students will connect with Israeli culture and society. Grade 5 students learn the following prayers: Sh’ma and V’ahavta, Yotzer Or, Mi Chamocha, Avot V’Imahot and G’vurot.
