Heh (Gr.5)

Grade 5

Coordinator: Alicia McGee
Teachers: Gail Mauer and Shana Alexander

Grade 5 students extend their sense of Jewish connection to include the land and people of Israel through a variety of hands-on learning experiences. The students use the book Welcome To Israel as well as modern technology to learn about and experience Israel through multimedia.  Some of the topics that the students explore are: Arts and Culture, Diversity, A Jewish State, History, The Environment and The Economy. Each student will participate in a year- long project; documenting and showing their connection the variety areas studied about Israel using different mediums.  The 5th Grade Kallah focuses on the Kibbutz Movement. During the kallah, the students work together to create mock-Kibbutz communities in which they learn how Kibbutz societies function, and how the geography in Israel affects everyday life.  Through all of these exciting activities the students will connect with Israeli culture and society. Grade 5 students learn the following prayers: Sh’ma and V’ahavta, Yotzer Or, Mi Chamocha, Avot V’Imahot and G’vurot.

Grade 5 meets on Sundays (8:45am-10:45am or 11:00am-1:00pm) and Wednesdays (3:40-5:30).
