Israel

Ahavat tsiyon, Love of Zion, is one of the fundamental values of Temple Isaiah. And the Temple’s Israel Action Committee (IAC) is committed to turning this part of the Temple mission into avenues of learning and opportunities for action in support for the State of Israel.

Our family of activists works to raise awareness about Israel through educational programs, cultural events, community celebrations and outreach events to Israelis living here and in the Jewish state. Isaiah activists also engage with the wider New England Israel activist community to raise awareness and engage in advocacy in support of Israel’s fight for security, peace and justice.

We support Israel in her search for peace and her fight for security, supporting both advocates for peaceful solutions to the Middle East conflict as well as victims of terrorism. In addition to issues of war and peace, we also support religious pluralism in Israel as well as work to confront anti-Semitism around the world. This work is of vital importance, and we welcome the participation of new members.

All members of Temple Isaiah are encouraged to join ARZA (Association of Reform Zionists of America) each year, the Zionist arm and voice of the Reform Movement in the United States and an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism. ARZA supports the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism (IMPJ) and the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC). To join ARZA, send a check for $50 to the Temple Isaiah office or add $50 to your next Temple dues payment.

Israel Engagement Programs include:

  • Speakers, seminars, and teach-ins
  • Support of the Temple’s sister congregation relationship with Congregation Or Hadash in Haifa
  • Fundraising support for Be’er Sova feeding program in Be’er Sheva and other Israeli charities
  • Temple-organized trips to Israel
  • Yom Ha’atzmaut Celebration (Israel Independence Day) and other cultural events
